For BC Lawyers, participation in this program can be listed as up to 7 hours of continuing education in completing your Annual Report to the Law Society.

Take 1: What Women (Lawyers) Want. Mel Gibson may think he knows what women want but Linda Robertson, Lawyer Coach, really does! In her keynote opening speech Linda will identify for us some of the things women really want in their lives (personally and professional). We will then build on the things Linda identifies as “wants” in the rest of our feature presentations.

Take 2: Happy Families – A Double Feature.  Maintaining a happy family life is key to both personal and professional success. Choose between two feature presentations that show how we can achieve a happier family life in different contexts.

Studio A: Titanic.  Learn how to keep your head above water while juggling kids and work with Kathy Lynn, a leading expert on parenting issues. Kathy’s one woman show will help you to understand your role as a parent and help you learn how to bring balance into your home life, leaving you better equipped to be more effective at work.

Studio B: Driving Miss Daisy.  In a reversal of roles, aging parents present a new set of challenges as they become increasingly dependent upon us, their children. Join a panel discussion starring Chris Norman and Joyce Nolin of St. Jude’s Anglican Home who will enlighten us on how to meet these challenges and explain options available to us for our parents.

Main Screen:  Thelma and Louise. Mentors may be someone you are “assigned” through an organized program or they might be someone you meet in every day law practice or in your personal life. Learn about the secrets for recognizing mentors and for building and maintaining strong mentoring relationships from Anne Stewart, Q.C. of Blake Cassels, Patricia Borges, Price Waterhouse Coopers and Danna Murray of the Minerva Foundation.

Lunch: Erin Brockovich.   Anna K. Fung Q.C., past president of the Law Society, will share her experiences about what it takes to be an effective leader in a male-dominated environment.

Matinée 1: Pay it Forward. Volunteering is a good way to give back by contributing your time and skills to your community in a non-legal setting.  Colleen Kelly of Volunteer Vancouver will show you how becoming a volunteer can bring rewards to your personal and professional lives.  Paying it forward and its rippling effect will surprise you.

Matinée 2: Show Me the Money.   The title says it all.  Jan Lindsay of Lindsay Kenney, Christa White of Counsel Network and Ellen Gerber of the City of Vancouver will show you how to get the confidence you need to ask for attractive files, a salary raise, business retainers, maternity leave, becoming a partner and more!

Matinée 3: The Devil Wears Prada.  Like the fashion world, a law office can be equally demanding and just as cruel and impersonal. Rebecca Darnell and Valli Chettiar, each lawyers and former legal assistants and Anne Chopra, the Law Society’s Equity Ombudsperson as well as Diane A. Ross of Diane A. Ross & Associates will provide tips on how to take charge and create an environment that works for you!
